Frequently Asked Questions
Plumbing
How can I keep pipes unclogged?
Avoid pouring liquid grease down the drain, and use
strainers to catch hair and soap chips, and other particles.
How can I stop annoying noises in my pipes?
By installing shock absorbers that absorb vibrations
in water lines, you’ll keep your pipes operating
quietly.
How can I best monitor water use?
Check your water meter during a time when no water is being used. Make a note of the meter reading and check it 8 to 10 hours later. If the meter has moved, it’s likely you have an undetected water leak, which should be corrected.

HVAC
What is the recommended indoor humidity level
for homes and buildings?
A good range is between 30% and 60% relative humidity.
This level of humidity minimized the indoor growth of
dust mites and molds. You can determine relative humidity
with a sensor called a hygrometer or psychrometer.
What is a BTU?
A BTU is a British Thermal Unit (BTU). It is a unit
of heat energy defined as the amount of heat necessary
to raise the temperature of one pound of water one degree.
A BTU is used to indicate the heating and cooling capacity
of a system, as well as heat losses and heat gains. A
10,000 BTU window air conditioner, for example, is capable
of removing 10,000 BTUs of heat per hour.
What does EER mean?
EER stands for energy efficiency ratio. The higher the
EER rating, the more energy efficient the equipment is,
which can result in lower energy costs.
What does SEER mean?
SEER stands for seasonal energy efficiency ration. The
higher the SEER rating, the more energy efficient the
equipment is. A higher SEER can result in lower energy
costs.
What does HSPF mean?
HSPF stands for heating system performance factor. The
higher the HSPF rating, the more energy efficient the
equipment is. A higher HSPF can result in lower energy
costs.
What does AFUE mean?
AFUE stands for annual fuel utilization efficiency. The higher the AFUE rating, the more energy efficient the equipment is. A higher AFUE can result in lower energy costs.

Non-Destructive Excavation
What is non-destructive excavation?
Non-destructive excavation is the use of pressurized water and vacuum to remove the soil covering underground infrastructure, including fiber optic cables, electric cables, water pipes and natural gas lines. This process virtually eliminates the risk of damaging infrastructure and makes landscape restoration unnecessary.
- In just 10 minutes, we can dig a 3’x4’ hole
and leave a clean excavation site.
- In 15 minutes,
we can dig a 6’ round x 30’ deep
hole for planting a tree.
- In 20 minutes, we can dig
a 2’x12’ utility
pole hole.
- In 2 hours, we can dig a 6’x6’x15’ shoring
sink.
Common applications in the commercial/institutional sector include:
- Utility Poles
- Light Pole Bases
- Slot Trenching
- Piling Holes
- Culvert Cleansing
- Shoring
- Potholing
- Tree Planting
- Drainage Piping
- Elevator Pits
